Thiago Pereira conquers Men’s 200m back-stroke title: Day one – 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy
Thiago M V Pereira of CORINTHIANS/S.BERNAR conquered the title of Men’s 200m back-stroke swim on the primary day of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy on August 30, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Pereira dominated the four-lap Men’s back-stroke event to conquer the title of the event. He submitted a wonderful time of 2 minutes and 00.15 seconds for the gold medal. With his fabulous timing, he was nearly nine seconds behind the Aaron Peirsol’s world
mark of 1 minute and 51.92 seconds, set by Peirsol at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
The gold medallist managed a comfortable lead of over one second from his closest rival and his team-member, Fernando Ernesto Pires Do, who remained 1.09 seconds slower than him and reached the podium for silver medal by submitting a time of 2 minutes and
01.24 seconds. In the same way, Pires Do kept his following swimmer, Leonardo Alves Santos Fim of FIAT/MINAS at a distance of 1.01 seconds, as Fim clocked a time of 2 minutes and 02.25 seconds for the bronze medal.
Pereira has represented his nation at numerous international stages of swimming. He won the gold medal of the 200m Individual Medley (IM) at the 2004 Indianapolis World Championships. He also captured two bronze medals in the 200m IM and 400m IM respectively,
at the 2010 Irvine Pan Pacific Championships. In addition, the Brazilian swimmer captured six gold medals at the 2007 Pan American Games, which took place in Rio de Janeiro.
The podium finishers were trailed by Fabio Arikawa Santi of ECP/SABESP, who was just 0.07 seconds slower from overpowering the bronze medallist’s effort and finished fourth with a timing of 2 minutes and 02.32 seconds. Santi was trailed by 23-year-old Andre
Schultz of CRF/RJ, who was just 0.96 seconds behind his former finisher and settled on the wall with a fifth fastest timing of 2 minutes and 03.28 seconds.
In the meantime, Santos Fim’s team-member, Lucas Salatta transpired as the sixth fastest finisher of the event, as he reported on the concluding wall by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 04.70 seconds. Salatta was trailed By LEONARDO SUMIDA of C.CURITIBANO/PR,
who ended his swim in the seventh place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 07.01 seconds. The last spot of the race was secured by Santi’s team-mate, Arthur Silveira Ramalho, who concluded his swim in the eighth place, with a timing of 2 minutes and 10.09
seconds.
Furthermore, the arena appreciated the exhausting efforts of all swimmers, whereas, the winners were called upon the medal rostrum for their noteworthy efforts.
