Thiago Pereira earns Men’s 200m IM gold: Day three – 2012 Missouri Grand Prix
Thiago Pereira of Brazil displayed phenomenal efforts on final day of the 2012 Missouri Grand Prix by earning gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM). The meet took place at the University of Missouri Aquatic Center on Sunday, February 12.
Missouri is the third juncture of 2011-2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix that offers an opportunity to all world-class athletes to serve notice of their talent in their main events.
With the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games, the USA Grand Prix is of considerable importance, as it will help swimmers in overcoming their deficiencies before the mega event.
The 26-year-old Pereira devastated struggles of his competitors in the four-lap IM discipline. He gained a prominent lead over his fellow swimmers in the first lap and made his way to the first turn by clocking a time of 25.94 seconds. He remained nearly
one second ahead of his subsequent swimmer, Andrew Ford of Swim ON, who covered the same distance in a time of 26.72 seconds.
The battle continued in second lap, where Pereira sustained his position by ending his first round in a time of 56.89 seconds. He remained 0.56 seconds slower from Ford, who ended his initial half in a second fastest time of 57.45 seconds.
The Brazilian veteran elevated his speed in the third lap and cemented his place for top finish by completing his lap in a time of 1 minute and 31.42 seconds. He suppressed all struggles of Ford, who was about two seconds slower and reported a time of 1
minute and 33.52 seconds.
With his relentless efforts, Pereira proved his dominance for the gold spot as he completed his swim in a time of 1 minute and 59.91 seconds. The 22-year-old Ford was three seconds slower from the champion and reached the medal rostrum for silver medal with
an effort of 2 minutes and 02.91 seconds.
Jack Brown emerged as the third best finisher of the race as he surpassed his following swimmers with a 2 minutes and 04.98 seconds effort.
In addition, the championship ended after the completion of all scheduled events in Men and Women’s corner.
