Thiago Pereira earns Men’s 400m IM gold: Day four – Maria Lenk Trophy, Rio de Janeiro
Thiago Machado Pereira of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM earned gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on fourth day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Friday, April 27.
With his immaculate struggle, Pereira faced no trouble from his challengers throughout the eight-lap IM event and transpired on the finishing blockade for the title of the event.
His alluring start played him considerably ahead of his opponents and he sprinted his way towards the finishing wall for gold medal with the timing of 4 minutes and 13.48 seconds.
He was chased by Esteban Enderica of FFC/RJ, who proved his mettle for second best spot of the event and ended his swim in a time of 4 minutes and 23.08 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Diogo Oliveira Yabe, who was just 0.40 seconds behind his preceding swimmer and reached the finishing end for bronze medal by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 23.48 seconds.
Yabe was trailed by Renato Britto Barufi, who remained significantly slower from overpowering the efforts of third position holder and touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 25.92 seconds.
Fifth finest spot of the event was obtained by Gabriel Maruyama Ogawa, who remained 3.05 seconds behind and ended his swim in fifth best place by posting a time of 4 minutes and 28.97 seconds.
Ogawa remained almost one body length slower from his former finisher, Lucas Vinicius Oliveira Silva, who proved his mettle for sixth position with the timing of 4 minutes and 30.14 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was secured by Felipe Costa Da Cunha, who remained nearly 1.30 seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 31.48 seconds.
Miguel Leite Valente remained nearly four seconds behind and completed his swim in eighth best place as he hit the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 35.07 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders were called upon the medal rostrum for their alluring efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship while the session ended after the event.
