Thiago Pereira grabs Men’s 200m IM gold medal: Day five - 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy
Thiago M V Pereira of Corinthians/S.Bernar grabbed the gold medal of Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) final on the fifth day of the in progress 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy on Saturday, September 3, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
The 25-year-old Pereira overwhelmed the efforts of his fellow competitors in the four-lap swim by submitting an astounding time of 2 minutes and 00.76 seconds for the gold medal. He was followed by his subsequent competitor, Diogo Oliveira Yabe of FIAT/MINAS,
who remained 2.96 seconds behind the gold medallist and stepped on the podium for silver medal by reporting in a time of 2 minutes and 03.72 seconds.
Similarly, Yabe was followed by Pereira’s team-member, Renato Britto Barufi, who emerged as the third position holder of the single-lap race, as Barufi remained just 0.47 seconds behind Yabe and ended his sprint in a nice time of 2 minutes and 04.19 seconds
for bronze medal.
Barufi was only 0.04 seconds ahead of his next swimmer, Lucas Salatta of FIAT/MINAS, who obtained fourth fastest spot of the meet by finishing his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 04.23 seconds. He was trailed by Andre Schultz of CRF/RJ, who was only 0.23
seconds behind him and touched the finishing wall in the respective meet to report in a time of 2 minutes and 04.46 seconds for fifth position.
Subsequently, Thiago Teixeira Simon of Unisanta secured sixth finest spot of the IM discipline, as he stayed 3.07 seconds slower than Schultz and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 07.53 seconds. Simon’s team-member, Gabriel Guerra Pedrao claimed seventh position
of the event, as he posted a time of 2 minutes and 08.79 seconds. The last position of the IM discipline was secured by Barufi’s team-mate, Lucas Fontes Lima Fragoso, who touched the finishing wall and ended his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 09.15 seconds.
In addition, the arena enjoyed the splendid efforts of all participants, while the winners received their awards and accolades after the session’s completion.
