Thiago Pereira wins Men’s 100m back-stroke title: Day three – 2011 Pan American Games
Brazilian veteran, Thiago Pereira, gave a wonderful performance in the back-stroke final heat on the third night of the 2011 Pan American Games, in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Monday, October 17. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 100m back-stroke event.
Thiago Pereira hit the finishing wall by submitting a nerve wrecking time of 54.56 seconds to clinch the 100m back-stroke title over his competitors. Pereira already won two gold medals in the Men’s 400m IM and 4x100m freestyle races in the respective event.
Pereira was the gold medallist in the Men’s 200m IM race at the 2004 World Championships edition, in Indianapolis. In addition, he claimed six gold medals in the 200m back-stroke, 200m breast-stroke, 200m and 400m IM, 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle events at
the 2007 Pan America Games, in Rio de Janeiro.
In the meantime, Eugene Godsoe of United States of America took home the silver medal by posting a matchless time of 54.61 seconds. The bronze title went to Brazil's Guilherme Guido with an inspiring mark of 54.81 seconds. David Russell of United States
of America claimed fourth place honours by posting an impressive time of 54.87 seconds, while Federico Grabich of Argentina settled for fifth place with a mark of 55.22 seconds.
Additionally, Pedro Medel of Cuba earned sixth place honours by posting a time of 56.16 seconds. Venezuela's Luis Rojas got seventh position in the respective race by submitting a mark of 57.54 seconds. Last, but not the least, eighth place honours went
to Paraguay's Charles Hockin after he ended his swim with a time of 57.63 seconds.
The breathtaking swims of all athletes stunned the arena, while the toppers of the respective race were delivered medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
The 2011 Pan American Games is a thrilling occasion for all sporting nations of the world. More importantly, it is providing a wonderful opportunity to all young guns of Brazil, Venezuela and United States to prepare hard for their upcoming meets at the
London Olympic Games, in 2012.
