The A.C Milan defender admits that the Bianconeri’s ascend is a bolt from the blue for him, and believes Andrea Pirlo is the key player for the Old Lady.
The Brazilian has confessed that he has been taken aback by the surprise emergence of Juventus as genuine contenders for Scudetto this season.
While talking to Corriere dello Sport, Thiago Silva said:
“To be honest, I didn’t expect Juve to be this strong.”
Juventus won two successive league titles in 2004 and 2006, before the infamous match fixing scandal saw them getting stripped off their titles and were relegated to Serie B. The Turin giants have been in a rebuilding phase since
their return to top flight, and have now emerged as a potent force.
“The Bianconeri have illustrated that they have a squad of quality guided by a really strong Coach in Antonio Conte.”
The two giants are set to meet at San Siro on Saturday, February 25, where the Old Lady will be looking to dismantle the Rossoneri off the top of the table. Juventus have had the better off the Italian Champions in the two matches
played so far this season, but Silva feels positive for his side in the upcoming game.
The former Porto defender added that the fact the Turin giants were able to illicit mistakes out of Milan could be attributed to Juve’s unique mentality of playing the game.
“They are doing really well, but we can beat them. We have to reduce the amount of errors we make against them. We’ve always made too many against Juve and that is odd.”
Silva also commended manager Antonio Conte’s efforts towards restoring the club to its former glory. He also highlighted that the role of former Rossoneri star Andrea Pirlo is central to the impressive form of the Bianconeri giants.
“Andrea is the element of the team which their play goes through.” Added the Italian international
A.C Milan lead the league table with just one point lead over the Lady Killers, who have an extra game in hand.
