Thiago Silva replaces Antonio Rogerio Nogueira to take on Alexander Gustafsson – UFC news
UFC on Fuel TV2, the second Ultimate Fighting Championship show on Fuel TV, recently faced a severe setback when Antonio Rogerio Nogueira who was bound to fight Alexander Gustafsson, to constitute the main event of the pay-per-view, got a serious knee injury
during sparring which eventually led him to forfeit the engagement.
The UFC management recently announced the news along with the name of the brawler who will replace Antonio. According to the tidings, Thiago Silva, who was out of the octagon since January 1, 2011, will make his comeback against Alexander Gustafsson in the
main event of UFC on Fuel TV 2.
The octagon for the show will be set up at Ericsson Globe Arena situated in Stockholm, Sweden and will be televised on April 14, 2012. At the moment the whole fight card has almost been finalised and the main card consists of five bouts other than the above
main card brawl.
According to the details, Nogueira, infamous as the ‘Little Nog’, was preparing for the bout when he got his knee injured. The physicians have just advised the Brazilian 35-year-old to take rest so as to recuperate from the injury as soon as possible.
Thiago Silva has been officially put in the main card and will now make his comeback after the dreadful drug incident that suspended him for one year. In UFC 125 Thiago was scheduled to take on Brandon Vera. Silva won the bout via unanimous decision but
later on, during the analysis of the post-bout mandatory urine sample, Silva was found to have used a urine adulterant.
Silva, after admitting the intake of the prohibited drug, explained that he took the substance to nullify the presence of banned injections in his blood sample that he took in his spine adding that he just wanted to hide the effect of those injections.
Thiago will enter the octagon after a 16-month gap and will take on a pretty young opponent. Silva, 29, is famous for his wins over Keith Jardine, James Irvin, and Houston Alexander.
Alexander, 25, Thiago’s young opponent is on a continuous win streak since his defeat against Phil Davis. Infamous as the ‘Mauler’, Gustafsson hails from Sweden and has entered the octagon a total 14 times. He has won 13 brawls and a whopping nine of them
via knockout.
The battle between the two brawlers will be epic and certainly explosive since both men are knockout specialist and love to play the brutal, straight knockout game. Thiago will strive to take this bout as a golden opportunity to start his win streak and
eventually fight for the light heavyweight title.
