The defender won his first major piece of silverware for Milan in the form of the Scudetto in the 2010/11 season, and went onto win the Italian Super Cup earlier this season. The Brazilian has admitted that he could not have asked
for more in 2011.
Silva has expressed his delight after being handed with the captaincy armband in a recent league game against Chievo Verona. The defender has thanked Milan for the trust they showed in him, and giving him the captaincy armband
ahead of some senior players.

appearances for Milan. Now I always want that armband, I am a leader.”
“Before me there is [Massimo] Ambrosini, [Clarence] Seedorf, [Gennaro] Gattuso and [Christian] Abbiati, so let’s see what happens next year, but I’d be the first [permanent] foreign captain of Milan for 50 years [after Nils Liedholm].”
If the 26-year-old becomes a permanent captain, he will be the first foreign player to skipper Milan after 50 years.
The former Dynamo Moscow star has been one of the most consistent performers for the Italian Champions in 2011. He was also awarded as the club’s Player of the Year in the 2010/11 season.
The versatile defender joined Milan in 2009, and since then, he has gone on to make 103 appearances for the Italian Champions.
