After a lengthy recovery process, Thiago Alcantara is back to training with Barca’s first team.
Since being ruled out of the Olympics in July, due to a tibia injury that occurred during the Copa Del Ray final last season, Thiago is finally back and training with Barcelona’s first team.
Making his first appearance for the Catalans in May 2009 at the age of 18, Thiago has proven to be a more versatile player. Playing in midfield, he is a force to reckon with, and although he is not the most goal-scorer, Thiago is of major importance to the
team. A playmaker who has helped Barcelona to many victories, is finally on the road back.
On Monday, after the victory over Osasuna, Thiago was seen training with the first team, albeit for just part of the session.
The 21-year-old son of 1994 world cup winner Mazinho has represented Spain in both the junior and senior teams.
In 2008, he represented Spain in the 2008 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship, and lead his team to victory. He also helped Spain win the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship by scoring in the final. He was also the man of the match
of the final, and player of the tournament as well.
In 2011, he helped the Spanish senior team qualify for the Euro 2012, which Spain ended up winning by scoring a goal against Liechtenstein during the qualifying rounds.
Due to his tibia injury, Thiago could not represent Spain in the 2012 Olympics, for which he was surely needed.
Apart from just him and his father, Thiago’s younger brother Rafael Alcantara, is also a football player, who plays for Barcelona’s B team as an attacking midfielder, and has also represented Spain in the country’s Under-16, Under-17, and Under-19 teams.
However, it is not like Barcelona were struggling too much without Thiagao. Winning their first two matches and staying five points ahead of Real Madrid, it seems like they were doing pretty well. However, with Thiago back, they may have a better chance
at keeping that gap between themselves and los Blancos.
However, it seems like we are going to see more of Thiago, sooner rather than later. Training with Barcelona’s first team, the 21-year-old central midfielder should be seeing some game time in midfield alongside Xavi and Iniesta.
