Thiemo de Bakker outshines Fabricio Neis in the first round – Porto Alegre Challenger 2012 CH
Seventh seeded, Thiemo de Bakker, got the better of the local challenger, Fabricio Neis, in the first round of the Porto Alegre Challenger 2012 held on the hard courts of Brazil. The Dutch professional displayed his excellent game
plan and consolidated his straight sets win 6-2, 6-4 on the eve of Wednesday.
The 24-year-old held his initial serve in the opening set and confidently drew the first blood. He cashed his challengers serve in the third game and marked the score broad with a 2-1 lead. As the set progressed, the Brazilian
professional proved insignificant and he was unable to fire any hit in response. The right-hander, Bakker, preserved his serve throughout and did not give his opponent a single chance to take the opportunity. He nudged forward and terminated the first set
with a 6-2 score line.
The right-hander Dutch sustained his lead by firing 54 percent initial serve with 11 of 13 first and six of 11 second delivery points. The Brazilian underdog secured 52 percent with seven of 16 first and nine of 15 second delivery
points. He was unable to secure even a single break point and his competitor snatched away two from four opportunities to stamp his lead.
Ranked 494th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Neis started to pick momentum in the second set. He broke his challenger’s first serve and clinched the initial two games. Nonetheless, Bakker responded and smartly levelled
down the score line to 2-2 in the fourth game. After that point, Neis was unable to sustain his lead and Bakker beautifully reeled off all the games without facing any real challenge. He eventually concluded the set with a 6-4 score.
The 22-year-old attained 51 percent initial serve precision with 12 of 19 first and eight of 18 second delivery points. He was unable to secure the lead because just bagged away one from two and his rival secured two from four.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Dutch contender secured 54 percent first serve accuracy, converting 11 of 15 first and nine of 13 second serve points.
