Thien How Hoon, Wee Kiong Tan save Malaysia’s honour in Men’s Doubles event - China Masters Update
Malaysia’s Thien How Hoon-Wee Kiong Tan lived up to their billing and moved forward to the quarter-final round of Li Ning China Masters on Thursday, September 13, 2012.
They outclassed Patiphat Chalardchaleam-Nipitphon Puangpuapech of Thailand in a 41-minute encounter and setup their next clash with the top seeded Japanese duo Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa.
The Malaysian couple has alarmed all the contestants by performing exceptionally well in preliminary rounds.
In second round of this Super Series, they played impeccable badminton and locked the honour with a favourable result of 21-18 and 21-18.
Though, the opposing team of Patiphat-Nipitphon put a laudable effort but it was not enough to avoid a straight-set defeat.
The twosome of Thien How and Wee Kiong set the foundation of their supremacy by clinching the very first match point on merit.
They took some time to gain the right momentum but never looked back after getting on the right track.
In the beginning, they could not move swiftly across the court and dropped many valuable points.
However, this bad patch did not continue and the Malaysian campaigners bounced back with a strong reply which helped them pile up a decent total of 11 before the interval.
Later part of the game was completely dominated by Thien How and Wee Kiong as they did not commit any mistake and doubled the lead in the third quarter of the set.
Patiphat and Nipitphon strived hard to come out of this deficit but they could not hit the mark and surrendered after reading 21-18 score.
The following game was filled with a lot of anticipation as both contenders put all in their possession to achieve their respective goals.
They remained close on points table until the last shot was played and this cliff-hanging segment of the match ended when Thien How-Wee Kiong tipped the scale in their favour.
The Thai shuttlers showed some spark in the beginning and gained a decent advantage but they failed to make best out of this lead.
Meanwhile, Thien How and Wee Kiong kept on gathering vital points at steady pace and sealed a splendid win by registering a notable margin of 21-18.
