Thierry Henry versus David Beckham: The move to America
Thierry Henry is the player on whose plans, fans were desperately looking forward to and after his signing at the Major League Soccer for the New York Red Bulls many consider this to be the dawn of a new era of football, not just in the American nation but in the world.
The former legendary Arsenal player for whom he had 226 goals in 390 appearances is considered to be one of the best players that have entered the football field. He enters the MLS leaving his career at Barcelona with 35 goals in 80 caps. For the NY Red Bulls this will be their best chance yet to acquire their coveted MLS Cup.
Fans are already considering Henry to likeliness of David Beckham when he joined Los Angeles Galaxy in the year of 2007 and though he has a strong relationship with LA Galaxy Beckham currently plays for AC Milan.
Beckham had 7 goals in 41 appearances for the club and that was not what was expected by the legend he is and in 2009 he requested a permanent transfer to AC Milan for which he was already playing on loan. But MLS and LA Galaxy did not give him permission so he still plays for them on loan.
Playing for Milan Beckham tore his Achilles tendon and because of that Beckham had to withdraw himself from the World Cup. Henry, like Beckham, has had a lustrous career, though it may not be as notorious as the Englishmen’s but he definitely was as important to France as Beckham is to England.
The American media and publishers have started their comparisons to Beckham in a couple of interesting factors. For instance unlike Beckham, Henry has earlier stated that he will not be leaving for loans in clubs and just recently announced his retirement from an International career for France.
These decisions at the age of 32 years are some of the other reasons why Henry and Beckham will have a very different career. Henry on the subject expressed, “I’m a competitor and I don’t like to lose" when he talked about the possibility of moving to America on vacation”.
Another major difference between the two players is the fact that Henry has a better understanding of football and fans and there relation to the sport. He has a much wider group of social circle and is far more interactive with public. He already has many good friends in the United States like the point guard of San Antonio Spurs Tony Parker.
Henry will actually look to promote football in America as he truly acknowledges the passion for the sport and will predictably be the person that will bring the change in America.
Henry being the gifted goal scorer, he is sure to bring the soccer fans in the country on their feet and bring about a revolution with a passion in emergence of the world’s most popular sport.
Henry will enter arena in America to prove that his current lack of performance was just a distant memory. Not only that but he is going to prove that his “Hand Le Frog” was just an accident and in the process will rejuvenate his tarnished character as a man with a true spirit of sportsmanship.
He will also be looking to make a comeback from his dismal performance with Barcelona and France. He is entering the bout in New York around the same time when other legends in time entered; for example Pelé, Franz Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto.
Henry has the Champions League, the European Championship and a World Cup under his belt apart from winning many titles and cups with both Arsenal and Barcelona. As Henry might have planned it is time for him to shine in America and bring glory to the world football in America, something that Beckham has failed to accomplish.
