Thierry Schmitter aiming for Olympic Gold Medal – Sailing News
Nederland’s Thierry Schmitter displayed some outstanding sailing skills on Medemblik waters and was able to hit the top spot on the overall standings of 24MR fleet. After putting up such n excellent sailing show, Schmitter is aiming to hit the Olympic gold
medal.
Speaking to the local media about his ambition, Schmitter said that he wants to win the last Dutch World Cup. A race is a race, a title is a title and he is very motivated in Medemblik. It’s the last time the regatta is a World Cup and he is leading his
fleet currently.
The Dutch sailor further added that Medemblik is a part of his preparation. The gold medal in London would be nice for him. He expressed that he still has a lot of things to do, but at this moment it feels good as he is going to try to consolidate his first
place here.
He finished on fourth podium in the Beijing Olympics but this time he is quite determined and enthusiastic about his performance in the Olympics.
From the beginning of the regatta, he has been a consistent performer and despite some lower finishes, he was able to maintain his top spot with 25 points after taking part in nine races, including a discard race points.
