http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 still hungry for victory – Cricket News Update
Sri Lanka’s middle order batsman Thilan Samaraweera has insisted that the back-to-back thrashings in the first two Tests of the three-match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has not wavered his side’s desire to win its first Test down under.
The Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 lost the series opener in Hobart by 137 runs before succumbing to an innings and 201-run defeat inside three days in the Boxing Day Test, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, allowing the mighty Aussies to take an unassailable 2-nil lead in the three-match series.
The third and final Test of the series gets underway at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Wednesday, January 3, 2013. The tourists, meanwhile, will be without the likes of veteran wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 and paceman Chanaka Welegedara. Sangakkara has been ruled out of the remaining Australia itinerary due to a hand injury, which he had picked up during the second Test, while Welegedara is nursing a hamstring strain.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ranasinghe-Arachchige-Suranga-Lakmal-c83928 have been called up as cover for the injured players ahead of the clash at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground.
While speaking to media reporters on the eve of the match, Samaraweera admitted that the innings crushing in Melbourne was “really hard to digest”. However, he said that with nothing to lose, they will go out there with all guns blazing and hopefully make the history by scripting their first ever Test victory in Australia.
"It was really hard to digest that defeat at the MCG, but that's in the past now. The good thing is this team have the belief they can make history by winning one Test in Australia," said Samaraweera.
"That is the kind of attitude we have going into the next Test. We have nothing to lose. We're two-nil down, but these 16 players and 10 in the management team want to go out by winning this Test."
About incumbent skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397’s decision to step down as the captain of Test side, Samaraweera said, "This is the right time for Mahela to step down. We have to move on for the future. It gives Angelo a chance to captain, while three or four senior players are still playing and will help with the pressure."
