Thilan Samaraweera looks to build on performance against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760
Thilan Samaraweera was a happy man while facing up to the media at the end of the second day of the second Test match against West Indies at the Premadasa stadium in Colombo. After having managed to score
80 runs and lifting the Lankans out of a mire-like situation, Samaraweera revealed that he wanted to play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the forthcoming World Cup.
Sri Lanka had lost three early wickets for almost next to nothing and with T. Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardene out, it was left to the likes of Samaraweera and captain Kumar Sangakkara to do the resurrection
job. His 80 came off 170 balls and was one the more matured innings in recent times.
Speaking about the track, Samaraweera revealed that it wasn’t the easiest for the batsmen – there would be a lot of playing and missing. He also added, “When you try to be too defensive also that happens.
At the end of the day I missed another hundred. It was lack of concentration. I am really disappointed because I fell into their trap.”
Samaraweera tried to pull a shot ball from Dwayne Bravo but only managed to top-edge it to the deep fine-leg fielder. This came after he had been afforded a healthy dose of bouncers.
Speaking of his knock, he said, "Yesterday, when I came at the close everyone appreciated my knock of 25 not out. That gave a lot of confidence for me. We knew if we could survive the first hour today we
could dominate the bowling, and that is what happened."
What was surprising about the innings was that the usually reticent Samaraweera was the more aggressive of the batsmen. However Samaraweera said that he was already a much-improved ODI player and averaged
almost 50 in that version of the game. He also added that he was surprised to miss out on playing in the ODIs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and was now aiming to make a comeback to the Sri Lankan ODI side for the World Cup.
