Former Sri Lankan skipper, Mahela Jayawardene, is surprised by the exclusion of Thilan Samaraweera from the Sri Lankan Test side for the recent third Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
Jayawardene argued that Samaraweera has been performing fantastically for last three years and his omission is certainly shocking news for the Lankan cricket fans.
“He’s been fantastic for us since his return to Test cricket in 2008 - averaging an unbelievable 69.21 in those three years. Knowing Thilan, though, I am sure he’ll be determined to win his place back and hopefully he will have a good constructive discussion
with the selectors about what they require from him,” Jayawardene opined.
The islanders lost the recent Test series 0-1 against Australian. The third and the final game of the battle was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s great opportunity to level the series but the Kangaroos dashed their hopes to ground by finishing the affair in a draw.
The former skipper stated that since it was a crucial contest, the team management should not have ignored Samaraweera, who is an experienced player.
However, the major point of concern for Jayawardene is Samaraweera’s exclusion from the squad for the three-match Test series against the Men in Green, starting from October 18, 2011.
In his five 5-day matches so far in 2011, the axed batsman has scored 288 runs at average of 36.00 – the fourth best average in the ongoing year after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779.
The Sri Lanka selectors meanwhile, reasoned that the 35-year-old batsman has been excluded from the setup in a bid to give an opportunity to the young lads.
The newly-appointed head-coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Robert-Marsh-c58893, also endorsed the decision to drop the Colombo-born cricketer, saying that the rotation policy is a great option to keep senior players fit for the bigger games.
“With the amount of cricket Sri Lanka will be playing in the coming two years, we are not going to look at the 11 players who will be in the final team,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362 shortly after reaching Sri Lanka to start his coaching job.
