Things To Know About David Villa Sanchez

David Villa Sanchez was born on the third of December 1981 in Langreo. Langreo is a small town located in the Asturias region of Northern Spain. He goes by the nick name of El Guaje, which means The Kid in Castilian. Spain are currently participating in the FIFA World Cup 2010 and David Villa clad in his number seven jersey, is the main goal scorer for his team, already having scored four goals and not looking to stop there. There are some important facts about the player that most people don’t know.

David Villa might have never been a football player, his career was almost over before it started when he was only nine years old. He suffered a very critical fracture to his femur back. Lucky for him though, after experimental treatment, he soon recovered a hundred percent. It wasn’t long after his recovery that he was signed by Spanish La Liga division two side, Sporting De Gijon.

He went on to score fifty times and play some brilliant football in the three years he played for, Sporting De Gijon. He was then signed by La Liga first Division side, Real Zaragoza in 2003. Villa was an instant success at the club. He managed to score seventeen sides, in his first season at the La Liga. His most important goal came against Real Madrid in the Copa del Ray final. Real Zaragoza went on to win the Copa de Ray because of that goal.

David Villa then got signed by Valencia in 2005. He was signed for only eight million pounds. He paid back Valencia’s trust by scoring goals from day one. In the 2005-2006 season he finished a few goals behind Eto. Villa had a total of twenty five goals that season.

In his first season with Valencia he scored arguably the fastest hat trick in the history of Spanish club football. He scored three goals in the span of five minutes against Athletic Bilbao which was on April the 23rd in 2006. He also managed to score a Hat trick on his hundredth appearance for the club. The hat trick came against Levante.

David Villa has one of the best strike rates in the world. During his entire career at Valencia he averaged at least one goal at every second game. He scored a phenomenal thirty one goals in forty appearances during his last season with Valencia. So far he has managed to score two hundred and four goals in four hundred and seven appearances for his clubs.

He earned his first cap for Spain in the five nil thrashing of San Marino on February the 9th in 2005. He has gone ahead and taken the place of Spanish legend Raul in the national squad. Prior to the World Cup he had scored twenty nine goals in forty five appearances for the Spanish national side.

David Villa has a tendency to perform on the biggest of stages. He was Spain’s joint top scorer in the previous World Cup, along with his strike partner Fernando Torres. He was also the leading goal scorer in the Euro 2008 finals, with four goals, this was despite the fact that he failed to appear in the final game because of an injury.

David Villa signed for Barcelona before the start of the World Cup for around forty five million. If Villa manages to adapt and settle into the Catalan side, then there is no saying how many goals he will end up scoring.
