Things get personal between Marco Huck and Denis Lebedev
Things have quickly become personal between Ring Magazine No.2 rated cruiserweight Marco Huck and No. 5 rated Denis Lebedev.
Allboxing reports that the two have exchanged a first round of verbal blows with Huck instigating by calling Lebedev an “ugly Russian.”
During a recent media meeting that included Huck’s team but not Lebedev’s, Huck said: “I wonder why Sauerland Event hasn’t assisted this ugly Russian [Lebedev] to get his visa for tonight’s presser. Lebedev has nothing to lose; he will become much prettier
under my punches. One can doubt about my victory but I’ll knock this ugly Russian out of the ring in front of my dear fans and will send him back to ice-cold Russia beltless.”
Lebedev quickly caught wind of the aggressive comments and responded with his own, saying: “I don’t read web sources, so I don’t know what my future opponent has said during the last press-conference. He called me the “Ugly Russian”, didn’t he? Well, I’m
ok with that. But Huck should realize he will have to answer for his words.”
Huck, the WBO cruiserweight champion, will step into the ring with undefeated prospect Lebedev on December 18 at the Max Schmeling Halle. The bout will be one of the most exciting cruiserweight matchups in recent history, as both fighters have successfully
mounted huge fan bases.
Lebedev is most known for knocking out Enzo Maccarinelli and stopping prospect Alexander Alexeev. Lebedev plowed through the top rated Maccarinelli, who has fought the likes of WBA heavyweight champion David Haye among others. In defeating Alexeev, Lebedev
further tarnished the former amateur champion’s record by handing him his second professional defeat.
Both Huck and Lebedev are considered formidable knockout artists, and it is likely that this fight will not last the distance. Lebedev is a close favourite.
“I prefer to speak to the rivals with my fists inside the ring, not outside it,” Lebedev confirmed. “If Mr. Huck lacks good manners, I’ll teach him them on Dec. 18”.
