Things in the United states that don't seem to make as much sence as the way things are done in other places?

Examples: Permanent carpet on the floor, which gets very dirty, and almost never replaced or cleaned. In Europe often hard wood floors, with smaller rugs which are removed cleaned and hung up to dry.

Another thing is the bathroom usually has a bidet to be extra clean, this is unheard of in the United states.

Dont be hard on yourselves....I love the way you get waitress service in a bar in America, much better than queueing at the bar and trying to carry several drinks back.....

You have lot better refrigerators, and waste disposals....and as for those ash pans under the floor, excellent idea....

And most houses seem to have those enormous basements which you can store the whole world in.....

So not everthing is so good.....from UK by the way.

mail boxes at the end of your path/drive

AND they dont have locks on them

when i read about this the answers are always the same-to tamper with mail is a federal offence, i am sure murder is against the law there too but that still happens, surely a lock would make sense?

measuring food ingredients in "cups"

does every single  person in the states have a special cup? are they all the same size? is it just any old cup?

every other country has recipes with measurements so they are universal the world over, we all know what 100g's are

but unless we have an elusive Ameican "cup" we are at a loss

You are perceptive. Cleanliness is next to Godliness, right? As fas as the carpets are concerned, I too prefer hardwood flooring.

I like the European custom of bringing the credit card machine to the table in a restaurant rather than taking the card back out of the diner's sight,  Much safer.

Also, the toilet stalls in the UK have those nice Occupied/Unoccupied dials on the doors--much better than looking underneath!!!
