Question:

Things other than a bouquet or Bible?

I have a really short walk. The flower thing doesn't really go with my dress (tudor style) and I'd like some suggestions on other things to carry particularly for the photos. My hands are ugly due to scars and arthritis. I am Pagan, so a Bible is out. The dress pictured below (the one in the front) is relatively close to what I am making (different neckline) with the same colors. Any suggestions. We are getting married a few days after Christmas.

  1. Hi.  Oh....that is really different!!

Read this short article about Tudor Weddings:

    http://books.google.com/books?id=ynMUvGd...

Anyway, it talks about the bride wearing "rosemary tied to their sleeves" and also rosemary "in their headdress"  The rosemary was attached with "long stremaers of silk known as bridelaces."

So....why not carry some rosemary tied with silk long stremers?  If you get the rosemary when it is in bloom, it does have small flowers:

I think that would be in keeping with the style of the tudor period.  Just my thoughts......

  2. A candle arrangement would look good and if you have grandparents or a family member who has passed away it could be used as  symbol for their spirit attending your wedding.

  3. A friend of mine is using a fan. It's quite gorgeous, but I'm not sure that that would go with the dress any more than flowers would. I like the rosemary suggestion, but my question is why do you need to carry anything? Carrying something isn't likely to draw attention away from your hands if you're worried about that, people will be looking at what you're holding and perforce your hands which are holding it.

Are your sleeves long enough that you can just clasp your hands together inside your sleeves? That always looks very elegant and dramatic.

  4. I agree with using rosemary - perhaps a small wreath would be nice. Or sprigs of rosemary tied simply with a ribbon. Or a small pomander.

Another option I saw on some photos was a woman carrying a small drawstring bag in fabric matching her dress, with cording and tassels.

Oh, after some searching, there are available wedding feather fans -

Just an awesome site with so many links I found -

  5. Im not totally familiar with paganism, but dont they have some sort of sun god rosary? Maybe you could carry something to that effect. Something that has to do with your religion, some symbol...

  6. What about a Kissing Ball?  Not the traditional kissing ball, but one that is made with things found in nature in the winter.  Pine cones, sweetgum balls, acorns, dried flowers.  It should match the colors in your dress well.

  7. I read somewhere that in the old days ladies used to walk down the aisle with "bouquets" of fresh herbs and spices... different herbs have different meanings, (ex. for longevity, fertility, etc.) you can look them up...

I really dunno what you could use... anything really.. .a sentimental teddy bear?

    Congrats and take care

  8. what about carrying a hankie, maybe one of your grandmothers or close relative,  or maybe just a single red or white rose, or maybe even a white candle

    hope this helps

  9. A picture of when you first started seeing each other. Then when the ceremony is beginning you can both look it it and really see how far youve come!

Nice choice on dress by the way!

    Hope this helps!

  10. The rosemary answer was a good one. How about a sprig of holly, especially nice if there were still berries on it.

    best wishes...............

  11. First of all, that dress is going to be gorgeous!!!

now as far as what to carry with you, why not a fan made of // customized with antique lace?

  12. Wear some pretty gloves and hold a candle!
