Things that the Western Conference Finalists need to do to ensure that they win (Part 2)
Continuing the list of areas where there is still room for improvement, we come to the final thing that San Jose Sharks needs to do so that it can bag a strong performance.
After this we will be mentioning a few things that Vancouver Canucks needs to improve on so that it too can emerge as a strong contender in the Western Conference Finals.
Sharks is advised to make sure that it doesn’t give the referees any chances where they can say that the call was unfair.
There have been no problems with the team’s discipline so far despite lots of things that Sharks needs to work on after the first game in the series.
Coach of Sharks, Todd McLellan, agrees to this and says that the team needs to ensure that it doesn’t give the refs any chances this time out and must outplay its opponents.
"I didn't think we were really undisciplined", McLellan said. "We weren't running around and playing outside that realistic zone that we have set for ourselves. We didn't wander, get frustrated, start whacking, hacking and slashing".
Nevertheless, coming to the first game, the discipline of Sharks was a little bit off as it gave away three crucial power-plays during the game. Amazingly, this was in the first 24 minutes of the game!
Then, another incident took place that later resulted in a goal which was Dany Heatley elbowing a Canucks’ defenseman. Henrik Sedin rose to the occasion and scored the game winning goal for Canucks.
Sharks was disappointed as it thought that during the game Canucks got the fouls called easily. On the other hand, Sharks was not even awarded some clear fouls.
The fact that Heatley elbowed Raffi Torres was also another issue where Sharks’ players thought that he was coming and was fully determined to draw the foul.
Furthermore, a Sharks’ player said that his elbow didn’t even make its way to his face and yet the penalty was called. What Sharks needs to do is that it should be avoiding such situations as it saw that this can prove to be very costly.
Sharks is down 1-0 in the series and the next game of the series will also be played at the Rogers Arena.
It is going to be difficult to win there but as Sharks has shown that it has the ability to win even on away ice during the course of the regular season, it will definitely give them immense confidence as it looks to level the series.
