Things that the Western Conference Finalists need to do to ensure that they win (Part 5)
The last thing for Vancouver Canucks to do if it wants to go all the way to win the Conference Finals and make its way into the Stanley Cup Finals is to carry the momentum into the next game after it comes up with a win.
This is not only that it should do but this is a statement that can very well create the road that leads them to success.
Canucks won the first game and was able to carry the momentum into the second game and win that game as well.
It is in a comfortable position, leading the series by 2-0, and now it needs to carry on with the confidence into the third game.
Canucks was in the driving seat in the first round series against Chicago Blackhawks as it led the series 3-0. However, it wasn’t able to continue the same level of performances after this and lost the next three games.
Nevertheless, the team clicked at the right time and in the end it was able to win the series.
Canucks need to keep this in mind that Sharks is a totally different team from all others.
If Sharks is in form and gets into the game, it can score goals out of virtually nothing.
In fact, the problem of carrying the momentum is a mutual problem that both the Western Conference finalists share.
Sharks was in the same situation against Detroit Red Wings in the semifinals, winning the first three games. However, it couldn’t seal the series and Red Wings won the next three games to level the series. In the end, Sharks won the seventh and most crucial
game to win the series.
It’s not necessary that a team is able to carry the momentum forward into the next game as it is said that the playoffs are totally different from regular season.
Each game during the play-offs needs to be dealt with one at a time but this can’t be forgotten that the last game’s result certainly has an effect on the losing side.
Therefore, a winning team also needs to carry the momentum and confidence forward into the next game whether it is a playoff game or not.
In this case, it is Canucks that is expected to continue on the dominating roads and it certainly did this in the second game.
It won the second game comfortably by 7-3 and now it is expected to carry this form into the third game and get into a comfortable position which would put them only two wins away from the Stanley Cup Finals.
"I thought last 25 minutes of (Game 1) we played well, we played fast", Canucks’ coach, Alain Vigneault, said. "I want us to do that from the get-go".
