I am travelling to India and I have three days to spare in Delhi.... any suggestions of what I can see (I know theer are so many things I can do there, but very little time)> I definitely want to visit the Taj Mahal.... maybe even the Agra Fort?

Also, I am travelling with three Americans who will visit for the first time. They are elderly gentlemen and I want them to see the "best" possible in/around Delhi....

I have also heard about a train designed specifically for Foriengers visiting India. Does anyone have information about that?

  1. nothing is especially desgined 4  Foriengers  Delhi Metro which is designed 4 indian and specially 4 local public of Delhi.

  2. I just came back two weeks ago from my first trip to India.  I never heard of any train for tourists, but they told me the sleeper train was more comfortable.  By bus, definitely a Volvo bus, they are air conditioned and more comfortable, you can even reclne in your seat and sometimes they even give you a bottle of water for the ride.  But no bathroom in the bus - they do make a stop usually for stretching out your legs, bathroom break, and food purchasing.

In Delhi we went to Red Fort, India Gate, the biggest mosque in Delhi, Gandhi's cremation site, Gandhi's house in Delhi where he was assasinated, and a couple of other places I cannot remember.

In Agra we went to Agra Fort, Taj Mahal, and a couple of two more forts/mausoleums-type places but I don't remember their names (our guide in Delhi and Agra was a little hard to understand).  A day in Agra is more than enough if you start early.  We went by taxi to Agra from Delhi (hired from the hotel) and it took about 4 hours travel time.

If you have time and some money to travel to other cities, I recommend Jaipur, which several people told it wasn't worth it, but it was my favorite place out of all the cities I went (I went to Delhi, Goa, Agra, Mumbai and Jaipur).

Umaid Bhawan is the best hotel in Jaipur and we paid about $25 a night for two people (tell the guys over there that the two Puerto Rican girls recommended it). Service was excellent, food was delicious, clean pool, and a very clean hotel. They treated us like queens! If you go there ask for Manzuur if you need a driver/guide - he is the best, funny, affordable, and ask him to take you to where the locals shop. He knew where to take us at all times, even for food, and he waited for us - you can imagine two women shopping!

We got incredible deals in jewelry (emeralds, rubies, diamonds, etc. it was made to order jewelry, very inexpensive - less than $150 for 5 rings and a pendant in precious stones). I also got 8 pairs of sandals and shoes for less than 28 dollars!!

Next time I am taking a bigger suitcase.

I really liked India and I am hoping to go back as soon as I can.

If you need more info, feel free to send me a message.

  3. Since you have three days only I suggest you do the Agra-Jaipur-Delhi circuit by road. NO specific train for foreigners. If you are talking of Palace on Wheels, that travels in Winter and takes about 10-15 days. For more options you can log on to www.AroundDelhi.com

    Bye for now.

  4. eat sholay bhatura

  5. yes, the taj mahal is a great idea. since you are travelling with elderly gentlemen, it will have to be  a comprehensive trip, so to say. here's more of agra...

in delhi, you could see the qutab minar, the red fort, the akshardham temple, depending on where you are staying...too much travelling could be bothersome.

the train specifically designed for foreigners is called the 'palace on wheels'.here;s the link to it.
