Question:

Things to check for before buying used (1995-ish) 3-series?

I'm looking to buy a 325i or 328i sedan with manual transmission in the near future somewhere between 1994-1998.

There are a lot of cars up on craigslist and the prices vary fairly wildly; both cheap and more pricey cars have descriptions saying how "great they still run."

Before I buy a car I'm definitely going to schedule a test drive. What are some things I should be looking for in the test drive or general things about engine (i.e. mileage, rebuilt engine good/bad?, salvage title good/bad?, etc) that I should know?

I'm not looking for a car to race in; I just would like a nicer commuting car than the '95 toyota corolla I have now.

  1. If you are buying a car which was serviced and maintained by Bava.auto,u will have all the service and repair records maintained well.U can see thru the records for major works done if any.

Body and cosmetic looks are of your taste and choice,so u decide.

If u are buying from unknown people,u have to get a BMW qualified mechanic to test drive and give you his opinion.

U please go for E46 models.

  2. Yes nicer than a corolla, the will go forever, if you put serveral thousand dollars in maintenance over its life.  If this is a turnoff stay with Toyota, you won't regret it.

Get a pre-purchase inspection done at a dealer.  The will check these items:

  3. Miles.  If its well under 125-50K ok.  If its over 175 200K buy it.  The motors and automatic trans like to die around 125-150K
