We are planning a vacation, and our route has a lot of dead driving space. What can we do between Niagara and our hotel in Syracuse?

  1. Not much!

The drive is long btw Niagara Falls and Syracuse with not much in between. If you are willing to go off the beaten track, I would suggest a detour into the finger lakes region of New York State - gorgeous!!! I mean really - there are gorges, waterfalls, boutique wineries and lakes that are breathtaking in the Ithaca area. Google maps or Mapquest will direct you and make sure to pack your best walking shoes. If you LOVE nature this is WOW!!!

I spent a week on Lake Cayuga last summer and making plans to go back - it has got to be the most pristine lake I have seen in a long time. Go there and you won't want to leave...really!  Rented a beautiful cottage and highly recommend (for dining)  the Aurora Inn, the "Simply Red Lakeside Bistro" at the Sheldrake Point Winery and one other - I'm so sorry, I have searched far and wide but can't remember the name. If you venture there, e-mail me and I will dig up the name - it was an awesome restaurant in the middle of nowhere and well worth the venture. If you go I will dig up my old visa bill for you, okay?

I hope I have tempted you to stray because Ithaca really is "gorges"! Well worth the diversion! Hope you go!!! Let me know!
