We'll be near Ontario, Canada (the potion just above Buffalo, NY) any ideas? My husband and I want to spend a week in Canada around Christmas.

  1. If there is snow (sometimes there isn't,) you can make snow angels, snowmen, skidoo on the back forty - not on the river. Skidoos can break through the ice if it hasn't been a very cold winter. Ice skate on a pond or come to Ottawa and do it on the Rideau Canal. Shop till you drop anywhere. Take in all the boxing day sales- a must do! Party - try our great Canadian beer but don't drive if you are drinking. If you smoke cigars, it may be your only chance to enjoy a Havana cigar without fear of arrest. Drive around at night to take in the Christmas lights.

If you are in Toronto, catch a hockey game. Please cheer for the Maple Leafs - they need all the help they can get.LOL

Add this list to the great list tethy has provided above.

    Have a grand time!

  2. There are tonnes of things to do around Christmas.

You could go to Niagara Falls which is beautiful in the winter.  Some wineries in the region are still open for ice wine.

There are several ski areas for downhill and/or cross country skiing in the area.  Try Blue Mountain, Horseshoe Valley, or Mount St. Louis/Moonstone.  Snowmobiling, dog sledding, and other winter sports are also available depending on where you go.

Shopping is open everyday except Christmas day.  You'll find lots of great shopping on the 26th (as long as you don't mind crowds).

In Toronto you could go down to Nathan Philips Square which always has a huge Christmas tree and free public skating.  Its also close to shopping and other tourist attractions in the city.
