I am traveling to Lima, Peru (Miraflores district) from Christmas well into January, and as a senior in college with 5 other friends going, wanted to know some appropriate things for us to do in the area. Machu Picchu is already on the list - I'm looking for good restaurants, nightclubs, beaches, etc. Thanks!

  1. Ah Peru! My most favorite place to visit. Lima, like any city, has a good side, & a very very bad side. The internet has so many sites to study on what to do & where to go. Always travel in YELLOW Taxi"s. They are trustworthy. The others? Well, why take a chance., Miraflores, a wonderfull District! Most beautifull!

Peru's restaurants are a lot different than ours. They are by far, cleaner than ours, even our 5 star ones fall short to their KFC. You'll notice this after you return home. They do not have buffet lunches. You order & they will bring it to you. Fast foods are pretty much universal. Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Tony Ramas, Burger King, no different than ours cept how clean theirs is.  Most places dont use ice, but some do. I never seen any & refills are out of the question. Food doesn't taste right to you? No refunds & please dont complain or you may be spending the night in a place you wont like! Just remember, your not in Kansas anymore & the rules have "all" changed.

Things to do? Their Movie Theaters, you got it! are out of this world! I could hardly contain myself! I mean, real marbel walls & floors? WOW!

Take a boat ride down by the beach. The beach isn't sand like most beaches but are round, smooth rock, probably hauled ..There may be sandy beaches on up the coastline. I'm not sure.

Museums are fantastic! We have a lot of nice, fancy museums but theirs go back to the beginning of Cortez & some even befor that.

Bargains are galore. The American Dollar to a Peruvian Sole equals 21/2 of theirs to 1 of ours, the last time I checked.

The people are outstanding & very nice to travelers. The single traveler will not want to leave! Believe me!

All in all, a great place to visit & dont forget to visit Peru's college while there.

Last'ly, Coca-Cola's better, Inca Kola. You wont want to miss it! Excelsor!

  2. You can do a lot.

Miraflores is the in place to go. You can go to "El puente de los suspiros" which is a popular lover's/romatic place. There are also plenty of restaurants to try "Anticuchos", "Ceviche" or other typical food. A few of the restaurants have folkloric/musical shows which can be in Miraflores or a taxi away...transportation is very inexpensive. There are also a few places where you can get souveniers like the main park there...watch your wallet. The beaches nearby are great but crowded with lots of new surfing classes or equipment rentals. The best beaches are out by the panamericana (Pan-American road), however, 1hr+ or so by car. I hope this helps a little

  3. Some very good restaurants are found around Kings Park in Lima.  There are several casinos there too  One called Atlantic City was pretty nice.  Have fun  Lima is a nice place to vacation.  Check out the Parasailing over the city, Way Cool.
