I am going to Paris in two weeks and I am trying to do some research, the last time I went I found it difficult eating out as I did not want to go somewere that was totally out of my budget but was nice at the same time.

Also if anyone knows of any cheap / reasonable shops (clothes, shoes, gifts, accesories, perfume.. Anything really) I would grately appreciate your feedback! The haute couture in Paris is not within my budget unfortunatly!

Merci beaucoup

  1. I bought most of my stuff in MonMarte.  I went to the square where all of the artists are and bought scarfs, berets, etc.

Then I meandered down to the street where Café des deux Moulins (from the film Amelie) was and got some really nice boots, etc.   Also I hit the nice grocery store that I think was part of Printemps for food gifts.  And lastly I hit an outdoor market in the Latin quarter.  I had a hard time finding that one but it was in my travel book.

Also I ate pretty cheap.  Get a travel guide from the bookstore.  That plus my fold-out map with the metro map was priceless!

I am so jealous.  I can't wait to go back to Paris someday.  Have a wonderful trip!

  2. Some of the museums are free or at reduced price at a certain day/time of the week.  If you love art, you can purchase a museum pass good for over a dozen of them and spend one week (easy) in the Louvre, the D'Orsay, the Rodin Museum, etc.  The outdoor flea markets are lots of fun and you can find them with a simple internet search.  And the shops at the foot of Sacre Coeur will give you clothes, fabric, jewelry etc on a good budget.

  3. Head over to the Rue Mouffetard in the 5th arrondissement.; There are a vast number of inexpensive restaurants with "menus" featuring 3 course meals, drink included, for 10-12 euros.

Some specific choices (both in the 5th arrondissement) would be:

Auberge le Pot de Terre at 22, rue du Pot de Fer

Crepes a Gogo at 12 rue Soufflot

If you're looking for a cheap place to do some shopping then head to the Flea Market of St. Ouen. To get there go to eother Porte de Clignancourt (line 4), Porte de St-Ouen (line 13) on the metro.

    For jazz clubs consider:

Caveau De La Huchette. 5,Rue De La Huchette (5th)

    Alliance Jazz Club. 7-11 Rue Saint-Benoit (6th)

    Le Petit Journal 71, boulevard Saint-Michel (5th)

New Morning 7 Rue des Petites Ecuries (10th)

  4. For food you can shop at ED or Lidle, and eat some where nice a parks or something . you can find the addresses of these shops on their websites. They are all over the place.

When I go there i just can't get enough of walking the whole day everywhere and that's how I find great cheap deals.

You can visit le Louvre for free the first Sunday of each month.

Usually you find very nice bands playing in front of Virgin for free during the day to promote for their night concerts.

Don't use the Metro during the day, this way you save a buck and you get to see more of the place, use it only at night or if you are in a rush.

Don't by food from little shop, the price is tripled.

Don't give money for beggars and don't feel bad because already they receive a very good monthly allowances and don't by little gifts from guys walking in parks and streets.

    Bon voyage mon ami
