  1. It's easy to get carried away with your studying/partying ratio. You need to maintain a healthy balance of each. Constant studying can drive a person nuts, you need to make sure you have a sufficient dose of unwinding time. If you make the choice to drink, and don't feel that you have to, learn to like beer; It's cheap and extremely prolific on college campuses. Try to limit it to weekends, though. My freshman roommate was once so hung over that her professor made her leave class --as unbearable as an organic chem lecture can be, it's infinitely worse with a hangover.

The Freshman 15, on average, is really much more like the Freshman seven or eight. Even so, it's easily avoided. Too much booze, especially sugary mix drinks, can cause you to gain weight. Take a few precautions if your worried, the worst traps to fall in to are eating late at night, and total lack of exercise.

The classic quandary: to go, or not to go. This depends entirely on what course you're talking about. Big lectures tend not to take attendence, but smaller discussion-based questions usually do. You're provided with syllabi at the beginning of the term, they're a big help in predicting what to expect on a day when you're considering sleeping in. However, unlike high school, work missed when you do not attend class CANNOT be made up. You're playing a game with much higher stakes when you choose to ditch class; do so with caution.

--Also, I just thought of this: my favorite high school teacher advised me not to try and sleep if I have only three hours or less, and he was absolutely correct. If you've been up really late (doing homework...or not) if you get under the three hour mark before you'd have to get up, don't bother sleeping. You're much less groggy if you just stay up

  2. go to class, study, get good grades, but most of all have fun.

  3. dont worry about anything but study hard and dont goof off

  4. this isn't a problem for most people, but for me i would've wanted to know to join a sorority and have more fun.

my college situation was different than a good majority, since i went to community college first and transfered in as a junior. so i felt like i was kind of stuck to start being serious about classes and deciding on my major because i came with 2 short years ahead of me. it also put me in a weird position to join a sorority, which is something i DEFINATELY regret not doing. probably 95% of girls in them rush as freshman, and the other 5% do it their sophomore year, so i felt really discouraged to even bother trying as a junior.

basically, i wish i had known that even though, community college helps get you more prepared academically, i felt like it definately took away a great deal from the fun and the true college years experience.

  5. Things you really should know is first of all, I know it sounds like I'm a parent (I'm only 23), but your education should come first.  Drinking, partying, all that good stuff is a must, but only when you have your classes under control.  I've had too many friends drop out of college and get on academic probation by partying too much and it really isn't a good path to go through.  You end up going from a university to community college until you get to transfer back (if you get to transfer back...)...secondly, missing a class here and there is ok, but really you should go to every single class, even if you tend to fall asleep in it.  For some reason, just being in class makes you remember small details that may help you in your exams.  Don't miss the first couple classes even if you think you know the material...missing 1 class leads on to missing another, and another, etc...it has happened to me before...and freshman 15 really depends on you...are you dorming? if you are, thats basically where it comes from...you tend to eat out every night, maybe eat instant noodles majority of the week, drink alcohol every often, and the lack of PE/exercise makes you gain weight....take in all this information and good luck to you!
