  1. You're going to need furniture if it doesn't already have it.

    For the kitchen:

    Garbage can and bags

    Plates, bowls, platters (for serving)

Flatware, forks, spoons, knives (I would buy service for 8)

    Glasses

    Coffee mugs

    Coffee maker

Pots and pans, I would get a 2qt, 4qt, and 8qt pot, and then for pans, I would get a 2qt, and 6qt.  You'll also need a saute pan.

    Whisk

    Spatula

    Serving spoons, wooden spoons

    colandar for draining

    salt and pepper shakers

    sugar and flour holder

    Recyle bins

    garbage bins

measuring cups and spoons (if you'll use them)

    tongs

    dish towels

    Sponges

    Dish soap

    knives

bowls (to serve and prepare in)

pans to cook in for the oven

    cookie sheets, at least 2

    Oven mitts

Dish drying rack and untensil holder

    Sponge holder for sink

    Bathroom:

    Towels for hair and showers

    Soap

    Personal products, shampoo, conditioner, etc.

    Toilet paper

    paper towels

    loofahs

    soap dish

    Soap dispenser

    Bath mats

Blinds or curtains for the windows

    Sheet sets for the bed

    Blankets

    Pillows

    Laundry Basket

    Ironing board/iron

    Detergant, fabric softener/sheets

    Lamps

    TV

    Radio

    Alarm Clock

    Hangers

    Area Rugs

    Phones

    Vaccuum

    Broom

    Flashlight

    Garbage Bags

    Garbage Can for the bathroom

    Tissues

    Cleaners

Think of the things that you have and use where you live now and that's what you're going to need at the apartment.  If you're planning to cook, think about what you can cook and take basic pots.  You don't need a set if you're not going to use all the pots in a set.  The main things are plates, flatware, glasses, and the things you ARE going to use.  There are things like the measuring cups and spoons that you can get later.

You can also get by with using just one pot and one pan, depending on how many you're cooking for.  If you living alone and know you'd like to cook for one more sometimes, or maybe 3 people, buy a bigger pan or pot, buy always have a smaller one for when it's just you and one other person, so you're not always using huge pots and pans.

For now, I would stick to the necessities being you have so much to get, and I would go to the sales, like Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and Linens and Things, Kohl's, etc.  There's coupons that you can use, etc. Walmart, Target, and K-mart also have great deals on these things.  You can get the plate/bowls/mugs in one box for $20 or less, and you can get all your glasses in one box.  They are GREAT for just starting out, that's what I did and that's what everyone I know did when starting out because they sell everything in all inclusive boxes and it makes it SO much easier and their prices are SO much better!

You can also ask for things for holiday gifts and also buy what you need when you realize you need it.  You don't want to end up buying things you will never use either.

Like instead of leftover containers, go with ziplock bags and glad reusable containers.

I would take a look at the things you use on a daily basis, make a list AS you use them, and that gets added on to what you need.

I hope this list helps.  You can also go to thecontainerstore.com and if you go to the dorm sites and pick on the various areas, it tells you what you need for that area.  I know you're not going in a dorm, but the list is still helpful.  It will tell you what you need for the bedroom area, the bathroom area, etc.

I hope this helps and congratulations on your new apartment!!
