  1. History repeats itself.

  2. I will provide you a couple of ideas to think about.

At this particular time in history, my perception is that we are transitioning away from the concept of a core family, and slowly, but surely, embracing a concept of total equality among the sexes.

This prevailing tenet seems to obviate the need to legally bind couples together.  Instead, a more liberal concept of co-habitation is becoming the norm.

Complete freedom is the God that we now chase.  Freedom to express ourselves as we wish, when we wish, in the manner that we wish.

And, this freedom usurps any need to establish and maintain any permanent, or even semi-permanent, relationship with anybody or anything.

Temporary liaisons are now the norm, and will continue to be until the societal fabric is frayed to the point that it will eventually tear apart from its own moral weight and then begin a long rejuvenation process toward a more sustainable societal mandate.

Now, you could use the above as the negative view and espouse a more positive viewpoint with this as the counterpoint.
