I went to Birmingham'ss Bullring yesterday for a day of shopping and i don't know my way around so whilst i was trying to read signs etc i didnt realise i was coming up to a speed camera, i was travelling at around 36mph when the front of my car went over the white lines, i hit my brakes and as the back of my car went over the white lines i was doing 34-5mph, does the camera take the picture of the back registration as soon as you hit the white lines or overall. Do you think i got a ticket? I'm really worried as i'm still in my probationary period! and how long do tickets take to come through?

Thanks.

  1. cameras are pretty smart thesedays, if it did capture you then expect to recieve a ticket in the post in the next week.

  2. You  will not be done for speeding for the simple reason that speedometers often say you are doing 3 to 4 mph more than what you are actually doing.

Therefore your actual speed will be around 31 -32 mph well under the threshold.

Don't worry. I promise you, you wont get a ticket. I guarantee it.

  3. If you saw a bright flash in your rear view mirror - and it is very bright and hard to miss - then expect to get a ticket within the next week or so.

You may well have got away with it, but if not it will be 3 points on your licence and a £60 fine. The points expire after three years though, so it is possible to have a "clean" licence again in due course.

  4. only 6 miles over the limit you may not get one at all... you have to be going fairly fast to set them off

    Edit:  just had a look

"the thresholds on many cameras have been lowered; whereas in the past you could be speeding by perhaps 15% and still avoid a penalty, this is no longer the case with many cameras. Stories abound of people being fined for driving at 33mph now"

oh dear.... you will just have to wait and see.

If you didnt see a flash them im surrre you will be fine, these flashes are very bright, its like the flash of lightening. I have often gone though camaras above the limit, but it has never flashed me, and i have never got a ticket.

  5. This would depend on what type of camera you went through as they all work slightly differently.  I would wait and see.  If you are going to be given a fine then they have to send you a notice of intended prosecution (NIP) within 14 days of the offence.

If you don't get a NIP within 14 days then you have got away with it.

A bit more attention in future though eh?!

  6. Dont worry about it, there is some time delay with those cameras. My sister is an Attorney and she told me that its easy to fight and win speeding tickets received from speeding caught on camera....as long as you weren't going 6-8 miles over speed limit.

  7. gatsos take two pictures one second apart. you may have got away with it.

  8. If you did get flashed you will recieve a letter within 2 weeks letting you know.

  9. The ticket has to be served within 14 days to be valid.

The camera takes two pics. The oics then show how far you traveeled (by relating to the white lines) in the time between the pics.

The police don't admit it publicly but the camera is set to 10% over plus 2mph. therefore you get away with 35.
