Question:

Thinking About Joining the Military?

by  |  earlier

I'm 20 years old and thinking about joining the military, either the Marines/Army/or Navy, haven't decided which one. The reason I want to join is I want to be a better man and serve my country and help others. I don't really know what do to with my life and thought the military might help make me into a man. I'm not what you would consider military material, but think they could toughen me up. My question is which branch would make me into a man? Am I making a wise choice? Should I give myself so more time? If there is anyone who has been through the military, please give me some advice.

  1. Ha!! You're in the same boat as me.  I talked to a navy recruiter in highschool and almost joined... I told him If things weren't going the way I like I'd join the military.. but I went to comm college instead... I went for computer networking for 1 1/2 years and realized that it wasn't for me..  So I figured i needed to do something constructive so I joined the Air Force on June 27, 2008....  I was kind of lost and figured the military would be the best thing for me

But IMO i'd recommend joining the Air Force is the most non military like branch ( it's still the military but you have somewhat of a normal life and still can do normal people things) - I never hear people talk bad about the air force.. but i hear others talk bad at times about the other branches...

but understand that if you join you have to give up your normal everyday civilian life... but the benefits outweigh the cons about the military..

I'm in DEP for the air force and leaving towards the end of the year :)

but click on my profile and send me a message if you need some help man

  2. I'd think it is great that you want to serve your country. The military does teach discipline. I've known men that served in the Army, Marines, and Air Force. They all have said that it is hard to adjust to civilian life once you're in the military and decide to leave. I would think it over seriously before I decided to enlist. I got a cousin that enlisted in the Army when he was 19. He is now 20. He spent a year on a base in Ft. Hood, Texas. He got deployed to Afghanistan last month. They have had 5 people in his battalion killed. They've been under several black outs. Which means no communications in or out. He has witnessed several murders and beatings. There was a suicide bomber that attacked a village outside of his camp. He saw several dead and wounded children. He has got shot at many times. He had a bullet to barely miss his head. He had a rain of bullets to hit his Hummer one day heading back to the base. My cousin is over there for 15 months. He don't think he will get to come home for Christmas. It is hard on him with a girlfriend back home too. Think about all of that before you decide to join the military. You may have to go fight for our freedom. I admire the men and women that to fight for us to be free. God Bless Our Troops! God Bless America!

  3. I think you should go for the army cause the navy is for g**s and their always on the ship and the marines is wayyyyyyyyy to stick i no my dad did 22 years plus my husband is crazy and controlling dont no but the marines have a really bad rep SO army is best u can still be a civilian

  4. I'll be honest.

Navy will make you smart and very responsible and army/marines will make you tough. All branches are good and it's a good choice. What would you like to do in the military. Don't listen to the people that say "you're going to die in Iraq". They are ignorant and have no guts. High risk comes high reward. Remember that. I'm in the navy and am going to be Master-at-Arms(security forces). It's what you make of it man. They will take care of you. Your choice. What's your interest and I can maybe help you.

  5. Good choice yes, there really hasn't ever been a better time to be in the military. Pay is up, care is better, benefits are enormous. Any branch will do it to you, but becoming an infantryman or CavScout will really test what you got if you want to man up. I was asking myself the same questions a year ago, and now I'm an officer in the Army. No regrets and feel I have truly found my calling in life. Go Army! Hooah!

  6. It doesn't matter which branch of the military you join as far as serving.  However, I would hope that you would look at it from the standpoint of a career or a stepping stone to college or learning a job skill.  If so, talk to all the recruiters and see where you think you will fit in.  This could be a life changing decision for you and you need to approach it with all the facts and options before making a decision on the branch you join.

  7. Bill I applaud your decesion. I plan on joining as soon as I'm old enough.I think the hardest training is the Marines. I believe it is the toughest one to complete because there drop out rate is almost twice that of the Armys

  8. Good for you /  Go Marines

    Vet-USAF

  9. Let me offer you a bit of advice that was given to me.

The Marines make robots, but the best d**n robots that the world has ever seen on gods green earth.

The Navy makes you a well rounded swimmer, and the only sob that can be called seamen and still command respect.

The Army makes you a uniformed diplomat, learn and know your enemy.

But the military period makes you whatever you want to be. So dont listen to what other people tell you...just go do it.
