  1. Personally, I think anthropology is a great career path.  However, I there's a lot more to anthropology than you might think.  I'm currently in grad school for applied anthropology, which is using anthropological research to solve a problem, usually for a client.  While anthropology is still firmly rooted in the study of foreign cultures, it's way more than that now.  For instance, my latest project is working with a UFO research group to help them tailor their interview techniques to address witnesses of different cultural backgrounds.  Basically, I'm helping them to remove the Western cultural bias from their interview questions.  Granted there's not any money in that project (but there is college credit), but that's just an example.

Globalization has also increased demand for anthropologists to help overcome cultural barriers in the business world.  There are medical anthropologists, educational anthropologists, design anthropologists - it's an almost limitless field.  Of course, there's the classic academic anthropology as well, but you need a PhD for that and you seem to spend more time trying to dig up funds than anything else.

    Hope this helps.
