Thinking about dying my hair at home...please help =]?

hey everyone =]

i'm having my senior pictures taken this friday and i've been considering dying my hair beforehand. my hair's a brownish color. i dont really know how to describe it lol. its darker at the top, lighter at the bottom. last time i had it dyed darker in a salon, the brown was infused with a reddish tint, so when it faded, it faded pretty bad =/ (d**n you, red pigment..) so anyways, i kind of wanted to try and dye it myself (which ive never done before haha) i just wanna make it a few shades darker, like a chocolate brown. i'm pretty sure i could pull of the look cuz i'm italian :P i'm tan and i have dark eyes that are almost black. i just wanna get it all one shade and darken it up a bit.

my only concerns are that i'm gonna damage my hair in the process. my hairs pretty long. about 18-19 inches from my scalp and the ends are kinda dry and dead, but i wont cut them and i'm using alot of products to help that and i kind of trim them myself every so often. i'm really worried about damage cuz i'm trying to grow my hair even longer ( i looove long hair) and damage would prevent growth =/

so yeah, i'm gonna post a few pics of my hair color up hereee. sorry if the color seems kinda different in each pic, i tried to get the right lighting lol.

yup, there they are. so my question is- should i dye it? if so what color and what brand do i use? how can i do this without damaging my hair? and is there any way to keep it from fading other than using a color safe shampoo/conditioner? i heard that using a deep conditioning treatment once a week helps..?

yeah. sorry that this is such a long, boring question. =P

  1. I really like the color that it is now, but if you want it darker, go ahead. I'm sure that you'll look great.

  2. go for light brown no ahses though they turn greenish and condition after

  3. Girl, do NOT dye your hair before picture day!!! If it comes out bad, you're stuck with that picture forever. You know how they tell women not to get their haircut before their wedding day? Same principle.

Just hold off on the experiment after picture day. When you're ready, find something that goes best with your skin tone - usually no more than two or three shades lighter/darker than your natural color. Good luck!

  4. Go for it!

  5. you can if you want.  go for something level one, that means only around 6-8 washes till it should be out.  read the box for how damaging it should be.  herbal essence is pretty good.  make sure to use conditioner afterwords and follow the instructions.  it shouldn't damage it too much.  leave it how it is tho, your hair color is soooo pretty!  i love your hair, i wish it was mine!

  6. i like the colour of your hair. i think you should go a little on the darker brown side. i dunt no much about dying at home but the brilliant brunette and perfect 10 brands are good

  7. NO  do not try to color your hair at home!!!!!  If you do  not like it you can really mess up your hair by re~processing it...And then senior pictures look bad!  Never color, perm or cut hair before senior pictures

  8. I would NOT do something like dying your hair at home if you have pictures coming up (unless you can reschedule them).  Think about it.  You are going to give your pics to like a million people and if you have a funky hair color you will be living with it for at least the next year and probably for eternity in your yearbook.  If I did it, I would go to a really, really good salon.

Otherwise, dying your hair at home is fine, but I'd get someone to help you so you apply it evenly - I ended up with one side red and one side brown from a self applied dye job.

  9. do it!

  10. I do this all the time, you should not have a problem... my best advice test a little bit of the dye on your arm before you put it all over you head only to find out your allergic to it (that sucks big time)!

Oh Oh and make double sure you rinse very well!

  11. do it
