Thinking about getting a pet duck...?

Would a duck do well with chickens? If yes, should I coop her up at night with the chickens? (all the chickens are girls, btw)

What are the highs and lows of having a duck?

  1.      A co worker told me he got a duck to control the snails in his garden and that worked great. But the duck pooped on his patio so every morning he would have to hose it off. However he said the grass around the patio grew really nice and green from the p**p.

  2. From what I know, ducks can be very affectionate pets. I'm not sure how beneficial it would be to coop her up with your hens, though, since ducks don't roost the way chickens do; they'd be sitting on a rafter while she'd be bedding down in their droppings. Although she would certainly benefit from being safe and away from predators at night. As long as you have nice clean bedding for her somewhere on the ground, it should be fine.
