  1. We buy whole grain pasta, bread, cereal, and crackers, soy cheese and milk, tofuti "better than cream cheese", faux meats like Light Life Ground, veggie burgers, smart dogs, meatless meatballs and lunch meats, tofu, peanut butter, jelly, fruit, vegetables, rice, canned and dry beans, vegan soups like lentil and some others...Vegan condiments, juice, soy ice cream, chips, oreos, canned pizza crust,

For dinner we eat: spaghetti with meatless meatballs, vegan chili and cornbread, vegan sloppy joes, macaroni and soy cheese with stewed tomatoes, vegan pizza, vegetable stir fry over rice, and subs made with vegan lunch meat and veggies.

Lunches mostly include: soups, sandwiches (vegetable, faux lunch meat, pb and/or jelly, leftovers, or the occasional smart dog or veggie burger.

For breakfast we have:  whole grain cereal or oatmeal with fresh fruit and soy milk, leftover vegan pizza: mmmmm, or leftover brown rice with soy milk and pineapple chunks (it's kind of like rice pudding), and about once or twice a month we eat at Bob Evans.  We have oatmeal there too.  You could also make vegan pancakes.

Being a vegan isn't boring or hard...you just have to read labels A LOT, and be imaginative.  I love it.  I have never been happier.  I am about to have a bowl of Kashi cereal with sliced strawberries and soy milk.  There's nothing boring about that!!!  Good luck and stick with it.  It will take a while to get used to, but you'll adjust.

  2. I myself am moving in the direction of veganism but for me, I'm taking it slow. I became a vegerian overnight (long story) and it was difficult. What I'm doing is slowly eliminating animal products. For example, I found that I like almond milk so I don't drink any milk anymore. I recently discovered Agave nectar in place of honey. I'm wearing out my leather shoes because I already own them but I'll replace them when the time comes with vegan shoes. I'm struggling with cheese.

You have not been a vegetarian long so I would take a little time and read a little (maybe Vegan Living for Dummies?) and do it right. You can get all the nutrients and protein you need from plant sources but don't just jump in.

  3. Obviously tons of fruits and veggies that you like.  Also stock up on canned veggies.  Try quinoa--it is high in protein and very good for you.  You can substitute it for rice in anything.  Boil it, cool it, and mix it with fresh chopped tomatoes, green onions, salt/pepper, lemon juice an olive oil.   You can also serve it as a side dish instead of rice.  Try barley also.  Use whole wheat flour for any breads or muffins you make-also for protein and fiber.  There are many pasta dishes, rice dishes, and tofu dishes you can make.  You don't need cow's milk for protein--no one does.  Snack on homemade granola.  Oh, and guess what?? For a treat, Oreo's are vegan!

Check out your local health food store, there are tons of options.

You may also want to search www.allrecipes.com for vegan recipes.

  4. i hope you realize that by going vegan you will be unable to eat anything with milk or eggs in it. That leaves you with soy, fruits and vegetables. Either learn how to turn a potato and peas into a five star meal or you're SOL. I would strongly advise you remain a vegetarian. Vegans have difficulty (so do vegetarians) in getting the required daily doses of protein. If i have failed in discouraging you then i will give you this advise. Unless you eat corn and beans every day the only weight you will be losing is muscle not fat. You need real protein! The only plants that I know of that contain these proteins are corn and beans.
