Thinking about opening a business in Vietnam?

I'm thinking about opening a restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I know the economy is growing by the minute, but I'm really skeptical about the laws and government there. Does anyone have any input on this?

  1. I believe it is difficult for foreigners to open businesses unless they have a Viet partner. I have been thinking of opening a restaurant in Ben Tre with my wife.

If you are in Vietnam, feel free to stop by and chat. We live in Chau Thanh and I will be there Thursday. I will have more information then.

  2. I would think that IF you know your cooking and can offer something with real QUALITY, UNIQUE (and maybe American) cooking, you might have something! But, there are lots of fast food places, I think there is a McDucks in HCMC. There is KFC in Ha Noi, so no doubt they are in HCMC. And there are local BBQ joints (I should try one of those to see how bad they are!).

Not easy, I am sure. Potentially interesting, but you better know your market, and your marketing!!!! before you wade into these shark-infested waters!
