Question:

Thinking about paiting my kitchen a deep red.....?

I like the deep red color and I would like to paint my kitchen that color but it makes me nervous. I have never painted such a bold color before. Was wondering if anyone else has painted such a deep color and what the results were.

My kitchen is about 20x20 with dark wood cabinets. There is a main wall in the kitchen that runs the whole length of the room with nothing on it. The other walls either have appliances, cabinets, frig or buffet.

I really like that Tuscan feel but am afraid that red might be to bold. But not sure what color to go with.

Thanks a bunch for your answers!

  1. I think that this color would give it a really warm feel.

The wood would look good and for the empty wall try a bulletin board on one end   black bathroom wall cabinet in the middle   and phone contacts or a mirror on the other end.

As for the paint itself go to your local Home Depot, ect. and get some samples and try it on your walls in little spots and see how you like it :)

    Paint::Sherwin-Williams-Red Bay-Try their visualizer!

  2. I painted my youngest son's room a deep red once---never again!!!! he was in a bad mood until I re-painted his room 2 years later.

For your main kitchen wall, try hanging 3 large panels of the deep red to see how you like it

  3. see this picture? The cabinets are dark, but that wall is white. It would definitely look more tuscan if it was painted red or even that orangy-yellow stone look on that wall with nothing on it. http://rentbesthandyboy.com/yahoo_site_a...

plus changing out the hardware on the drawers and doors could help alot.

  4. Personally i think a deep red or any dark color with dark cabinets would just make the whole room "dark" and make the room feel small!!!

I prefer both my kitchen and bathroom painted with light

or bright colors they help open up the rooms and make

them feel airy, in addition to lightening up the room-you want to see what you're cooking.

My kitchen has a Tuscan theme with a rich gold color and i love it and could work for you as well.

Also the gold would look nice with your dark cabinets and you could add some deep red accessories, that would be awesome.

  5. I've seen it done...not done it myself.  Just be careful of the shade of red, a Tuscan red would be more on the terra cotta/orange side or possibly like a cranberry. Choose according to the accent and decor pieces you plan on.

  6. We had dark brown wooden cabinets we painted white. Our kitchen isn't as big as yours though.  We have burgundy on the walls and it looks great.  I prefer it in the winter though, as it makes it a warm colour.  Its only paint, and worth the risk.

  7. I think it will be fine.  The only thing is to make sure that your red paint has the same undertones as the wood in the kitchen.  If the cabinets are a warm-toned wood, go with an orangy red.  If they are a cool-toned wood, go with a red that has a bit of blue in it.

Paint is cheap.  You can always redo it.

  8. I think this sounds like a great idea. When I remodel my kitchen, I plan to get dark cherry-chocolate cabinets & then paint the walls a deep orange.

I *love* this kitchen! It's so warm & cozy - like a country cabin in the woods or by the lake. I can almost smell the cinnimon rolls in the oven. "Vesuvian Garnet" by Kilz is the name of the color.
