Please no losers with nothing better to do than play with themselves and waste people's time. I need an answer from Sifu's, Sensei's...people who have opened schools and seen the ups and downs to this life decision.

  1. I'm not a master, nor a sifu, but listen I'm currently studying 7 different styles of martial arts, I haven't seen all the ups & downs to these decisions, but I know a little something about devotion. And if u want to do it, then go for it.

But first let met tell u, theres a lot of hard work, when I first studied Kung Fu, I thought it'd be easier than it really was. If u really want get into this art, be prepared to devote yourself to it for ur entire life,(I have, and I love it) remember this is a life style different  from that of an ordinary person, so if u want to do it, be aware of what ur getting yourself into, that bein said, if u still want to do it, I wish u the best in all you do.

(Maybe one day when both our skills are improved, we might spar in a tournament in real life, I'm a black 6'0' male & am currently 18 yrs old, my name is Jordan, remember me, cause one day I'll be ur combat opponent, get strong, ur friend pathygorean.

  2. If that's what you really love than try it.

Start small, maybe something out of your home, than build from there.

You might want to have secondary income to start though, just in case.

  3. if you planto spend hard work and deviotion for somthing you may hate for the rest of your life yes if not learn some moves prefect them yourself and youll have more fun tip:learning moves from all diffrent places makes for a strong and complex style and it can remian a hobbie if you want to

  4. YES  it is worth it. plain english.

it depends on many things..what you want...what you want to give...etc etc.

but ultimately...just make sure it's what you really want. commiting yourself to ANYTHING..is a worthwhile persuit. (ok not literally anything ...such as drug abuse or child p**n)

  5. To what purpose?

Kung fu is usually used as a mere instrument to "know thyself."

Don't confuse the hammer and saw with the house that you want to build with them.

I agree with Alice: "You are not yet ready."

  6. You watch too many movies. You make it seem like some sort of cult or something...

  7. I always stress the importance of lineage.

Of course the instructor has to have the zeal to teach.

I went into a school where the instructor is highly venerated, just to see him in form. I love to watch martial arts.

I was pretty disappointed. All the talk of greatness and mastery.

I went to see someone else who is not well known, but who is someone I know of. He didn't do anything but talk to me. He impressed me. I wanted to join his class and he turned me down.

When you find someone, ask to see his lineage. Ask how long he trained with his teacher and if he learned the complete system.

One of my Teachers is totally effortless in his technique. He uses no power because he has none. He controls your energy. Look at his technique. Can he do it as if he wasn't really trying?

Does he teach the techniques within his art?

If the teacher is Asian, and there are Asian students in the class, are they together or separated from the non-Asians?

I went to see a Chinese teacher who is a famous Chen style master, well know in the world. His Chinese students were separated and they do things different from the non Chinese. I saw this because someone I know who teaches Chen Style brought it up to me and I looked out for it.

My Teacher, who is Chinese also told me that Chinese are separatists. They do this.

Try to watch the senior students and see if they execute technique with power, or with energy. You'll be able to tell the difference.

Chinese martial arts is about energy. If you don't see it, and more importantly, if you don't feel it, go somewhere else.

  8. "losers with nothing better to do than play with themselves"?????

You are not ready for the Path.
