  1. My daughter has just finished 3 years at Derby Uni, Law with Criminology I think and has got a 2.1 degree, and is now going to Manchester Met to do a years B.V.C, she is somewhat determined to be a Barrister.

She has enjoyed the first three years, although you do a mixture of subjects, some of each like the basics in criminal law, land law, EU law, trusts etc. some subjects she enjoyed more than others, Criminal law being her favourite.

I don't think it can be really really difficult to fail for the simple reason that I know my daughters capabilities and she is not naturally very very clever, she has to put in study and reap the rewards. She hasn't got a brilliant memory recall for instance like some people have. She is an average student, therefore I should not worry too much about failing it, if . you are prepared to do what the course requires of you which is turning up for lectures, making lots of notes (you would need them) and handing in projects/essays on time etc you should have no trouble.

On the up side she enjoyed meeting new people, the socilialising side is good (very good, too good sometimes, keep yourself in check!)

Now things have got a bit serious because she has been accepted at Manchester for 1 year BVC course, and just reading the terms and conditions is a touch scary! like having time off etc and she's not sure how much study time she will have to do, and will she be able to fit a part time job in etc so we start all over again. ( At Derby doing law she was able to get a job in a pub and earn herself about a 100 quid a week).

But in answer to your question, she had a ball at Uni and the subject matter interested her alot and to a degree I have learnt alot too, so much so I was thinking of doing it by open iniversity! so yes it is interesting, and you will be able to work in law firms, the police, specialise in something like forensics (I like the sound of that! always did like Quincey!!!) so yep if you like the idea go for it....If my daughter can pass it comfortably I am sure that you can too.

  2. I did law. While I wouldn't say I absolutely loved it... I enjoyed... most of it. Taking a qualifying law degree in the UK you have to cover a wide range of  subjects - administrative/constitutional law, criminal law, tort, contract, trusts, land, European Union and so on. I loathed European Union law and loved land law and my optional ones. At degree level, actually failing is really quite difficult - but then that depends more on university than on subject.

Law is a fairly useful degree for general management type things, and of course there are always the various legal jobs - legal executives, solicitors, Barristers, HM courts service, Trademark Attorneys and so on.
