What are the best woods for acoustic guitars??? Electric is mahogany, I'm pretty sure for the body anyway, and rosewood for the fret board. Are acoustic guitars the same??? or do some other woods have more resonance than others for an acoustic guitar?

  1. go to Wikipedia and search Luthiers, way too much info there to try and explain here!

  2. Rosewood is a popular wood for acoustic guitar backs, sides and necks, so is mahogany. Koa, walnut and maple are also sometimes used.  Acoustic guitar tops are usually spruce, but some guitar builders use cedar which gives a warmer tone I believe.  Fingerboards are usually ebony.

  4. Rachel_S: please name one guitar with a rosewood neck, which you say is so popular.  (Not fretboard, but neck.)  Thanks.
