My friend’s in his company that has frequent gatherings – they call them Family Gatherings – I think the company is Studeo Grafix because their website is called http://www.studeografix.com =P. Team building has to occur in a format other than a conference or informal office gathering. It has to start with hiring the right employees to work together.  If someone is a good worker and gets along with almost everyone, find out who they do not get along with, and you will find a drain on the productivity in your office...even if that person is all smiles around you.  That person is probably eventually going to do you wrong too. Maybe even try to take your job. No LOL about it. :(

If you insist on a series of informal gatherings to encourage building confidence in each other, then what you might do is set the stage for it now by having each person on the team always report to each other on the status of their important interrelated tasks.  Meet every morning for a few minutes to discuss what is going to be done that day and be friendly with each other. This way, at the office gatherings you intend upon, the people will be open to listening to whatever ideas you had in mind for team building.

Maybe you could make something together once a week, or once a month, just for fun? Like a movie one time, a game the next, a model building, so on and so forth.
