Question:

Thinking of Buying a Mazda MX-5

I'm currently looking for a second car and thinking of buying a Mazda MX-5. I'm 20 at the moment but will be 21 by time get round to buying one. I'm only looking to spend around £1500 so looking at around 1992 model for this amount. Problem is that insurance is quite high (£1000ish - that's with stating I'm only doing 5000miles a year) and I was wondering if anyone knows any cheap insurance companies or if there is a way I can combine my current car insurance (2002 Ford Focus) together with this to make it cheaper?

Any idea's will help.

  1. My boyfriends looking at these too and got quoted about 950 on a 1.8l sport fully comp on confused.com, I've heard Quinn Direct is quite cheap but apparently not very reliable. To be honest though it's unlikely you'll get it much cheaper because us lot under 25 get a load of stick even if we're good drivers :( good luck xx

  2. yeah what everyone above said

One, probably useless, bit of info for you though - be careful that you get an actual mazda mx5 as the eunos roadster, although technically the same car, costs - for some strange reason - a bit more than the genuine mx5

edit-----just re-read that and thought it could be a little confusing - I mean't that the Insurance can cost more - not the actual car!

  3. www.confused.com

  4. I'm just taking a break from Autotrader 'cos I'm looking for an MX5 as well.

Try somewhere like Footman James or Lancaster insurance and take out a classic policy with limited mileage.

Just to make you wish for a bit more age, I'm 50 and have just been quoted £125 for cover on a 2001 MX5.

  5. considering its a mx-5 and your age £1000 is a normal price for insurance

do you have any no claims ? your car is probably group 12 insurance

I have a 93 civic esi, im 23 with no bonuses and i was quoted £1600 cheapest

  6. Have you looked at classic car insurance quotes?

Most cars that are over 15 years old are eligible for a classic car quote and these can often be much lower than standard car insurance quotes as they are specifically tailored to cars doing less than 7,500 miles per year.
