hi! i would like to ask for recommendations on what canon i could buy that are not that new and yet is more than 7mp. i think canon ixus is expensive compared to powershot. im into digicam not in slr. id like to buy one that i can use for 2 years or so with features like high optical zoom and digital zoom, ease of use, advanced setting like macro and those where you could adjust the f and iso speed. does buying a canon camera also include how to use the camera and tips for taking shots?

thanks in advance.

  1. I have the Powershot SD1000. It's been a great camera for me. It's 7.1mp so it fulfills that criterion.

As far as zoom goes it has 3x optical. That's not amazing but it's pretty typical of P&S cameras. If you want more than that you'll need to go to a bridge camera and those will cost you around $400. I don't remember what the digital zoom is and the truth is you shouldn't care. Digital zoom is the same as cropping the image on your computer so there's no real point having it on the camera.

All digital cameras should come with a manual that will tell you how to use the camera. Sometimes there are tips on how to take photos, but not always. If there aren't it's not hard to find photography tips on the internet.

The SD1000 also has a macro mode and allows you to set the ISO. You can't set the f-stop though. To do that you'll need a bridge camera like the G9 (once again, those cost $400).

  2. Look at the Canon A-590. One of the best camera's for less than $200.
