  1. Seriously consider area rugs instead.  The tile will be damaged by carpet - and carpet is generally a significant step down from tile.

  2. Yes, you can... either use carpet tack strips as in any other installation or the carpet can be glued down.  Either method is going to harm the ceramic tile, so if you think you may ever want to expose it again, give it some thought.

  3. You could always get some nice area rugs. Whomever lays the carpet could tell you if they can lay it on the tile. I can't think of the reason why couldn't thyough.

  4. You can do a lot of changing the look without totally covering the tile and adding to your expense.

Also, carpet has plenty of health issues associated with it.

    See the following web page:

There are numerous options for area rugs including natural carpet-

Tile is a higher end product that gives a higher value to your home.  If you decide to sell later, and it is damaged by laying carpet over it, you may lose money on both ends.

Seriously consider keeping your tile look!  It's a beautiful, natural, healthy product.

    Hope this helps!

  5. You might want to re-think covering all the tile.

Considering the cost to install it in the 1st place. It's like the morons that put carpet over hardwood floors.  Just get area rugs.

You can really razz it up with different ones, and throw them out when they wear out.

if you want carpet that bad, do yourself a favor and lay down a thin subfloor over the tile, then tac the carpet to that.  Because it wont take you long to realize the mistake you made, and will want to rip it up anyways.

  6. Yes, you can lay carpet over tile, its like laying carpet over concrete. There are special nails that are used on the tack strips that will go through the tile and masonry..

Was the tile laid on concrete or do you have a wood subfloor? Either way, the answer is Yes and your PRO would know how to do that. However to avoid a higher floor level in these areas I would remove the tile. That's something you can do yourself in one weekend. Prep the floor yourself and save some $$
