Thinking of buying more RAM. Help?

Does it matter if it's DDR2 or DDR3 or how many pins it has, or is there a chance that a certain type of RAM won't work on my motherboard/computer? Mine is fairly outdated (5 years).

  1. 5 years old... well no way it will take ddr3 you probley have regular 184 pin ddr.

ddr2 and ddr3 have 240 pins and different voltages no way it will work on a ddr board!

  2. you probably have DDR not 2 or 3. Make sure you check because if you get the wrong kind your sol.

  3. Go to the Kingston site and use their configurator.  Be prepared to enter your computer manufacturer and model.

It'll tell you what type to buy.

  4. no it will not work on your computer, you'll have to upgrade the motherboard and cpu. depending on what motherboard you have i dont believe DDR2 will work either. my computer is 3 years old and on DDR and it does not take DDR2 or DDR3 its impossible

  5. DDR2 is getting old. Even though DDR3 is costly try buying because it is the future.

  6. Check thr previouse one in the mother board to know what type that will work with it. if you go ahead to buy, it may not work with you pc and that is not professional..
