There are a lot of suggestions out there.  Your detailed message asked about part time direct selling that make extra income.  I think your best bet would be to look into the world's largest direct selling telecommunications service provider.  A 15 year old world wide company that Donald Trump has endorsed, uses the product and is highly involved in the company.  You would market in products and services that people use every day and pay for anyway.  Such as local and long distance telephone services, Internet, digital and video phone services, VOIP, Satellite TV and all major cellular phone providers such as Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, Alltel, Nextel etc.  You basically would save people money on services that they are already using and paying for, and help people onto services that they don't already have.  Every time these people pay their bills, you make a percentage over and over every single month.  

You can either make a lot of income, or a little, depending on what you do with it.  It's all up to you.

Direct sales is a hard knock.  You'd be dealing with a lot of cold calls, demo parties, driving around (and with gas prices being what they are...) and a whole lot of rejection.

What about something online that you can do from home in the hours you choose?  There are many home business opportunities that have a low start up cost, no inventory, direct sales, demo parties, cold calls or any of that as everything is done strictly online with the use of a phone.

You can make money, and alot of it, by finding and filling a need for your customers. You might consider one of the many known companies like Avon, Amway, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, or branch out into your own company selling products that you have passion for. You will make more money working for yourself than you will working for someone else so you may wish to start brainstorming your talents and the needs/want for your customers. People are more apt to hire others or buy products that will help them make money, save money, save time or get peace of mind. Many home businesses have turned to huge corporations: Coca Cola, Dell Computers, Ebay, and Lillian Vernon (mail order) are just a few. Don't wait for your ship to come in .... swim out to meet it.
