Thinking of getting a guinea pig...?

I don't know much about them though. I have rabbits, but I want to know specific guinea pig stuff. What sort of cage to keep it in? what are they like compared to rabbits (in what they do and what they like)? what to feed them? do they use litter trays? Anything else useful?

Thanks :)

  1. First off, it's best to get them in same s*x pairs or groups because they are very social herd animals. They get lonely without a piggie friend.

As for cages, your best and cheapest bet would be to build one since most pet store cages are way too small: http://www.guineapigcages.com/

  2. they are very noisy demading critters my kids had them and after a month they didnt want them anymore

  3. I have both rabbits (4) guinea pigs (2)

They are lovely. I love them to bits.

They will let you pick them up, with not too much struggle.

Once picked up they will sit there for ages.

Feed them pellets. That's best for them! Same with rabbits.

If from the pet store they fed them on meulsi, give them both types of food for 10 tens, slowly introducing more pellets each time.

Pellets are better for them as it reduces picky eating.

If you are seriously thinking about getting a guniea pig, get two. They are better it groups or just couples.

Males are friendier however both make good pets.

You can keep them in a cage indoors or a hutch outside.

The cage or hutch has to be 3ft or bigger. NOT smaller.

Make sure if you keep them outside you have the hutch coverd so it doesnt make them cold and get sick.

If you find out your guinea pig has loose stools take them right to the vets as its fatle.

Have a run in the garden so they can eat the grass, dont put them out in the rain.

DONT feed them lettuce as it can kill them, same with rabbits.

    You can't litter train them.

Rabbits and guinea pigs are similar but are different.

Dont house the guniea pigs with the rabbits, they are friendly to each other but the rabbits can accidently hurt them with their back legs.

    You can fix them.

  4. they can live in a rabbit cage but not with other animals they sell mixed foods of corn ,pellets ,and sun seeds at the store they love alfalfa and can use wood shavings
