I own an eight year old pit bull male and a four year old chihuahua male. They get along a few growls here and there which is to be expected. I am looking at getting another pit bull a little female nine week old. I have the time to spend with them, but wondering if three is crazy. Anyone out there own more than two dogs? Males/females? Any advice?

  1. we have 3 collies (2 female, 1 male) and 1 terrier (male)

and they all get along (except 1 of the females who is very moody, but thats not because of the other dogs! its just her!!)

if you get the other dog from a pup they should be ok, but make sure your other dogs don't get jealous!!

    good luck

also if they live inside give them separate beds, to start with keep them in different rooms and let them get used to each other in their own time, and if they live outside again keep them separate!

  2. We have three and its wonderful lots of the time.. but there are times when it is extremely inconvenient... If we want to stay somewhere it is harder to find sitter for three dogs adn the expensive of boarding is higher.. WE are now faced with possibly moving and the thought of paying pet deposits on 3 is a lot more than on 1... when we have company it is harder, the dog food bill is a lot higher, the shedding we have is way more.  yeah just figure 3x.  plus if you have to separate at any time it is more complicated especially with who goes out when. lots to consider. we wouldnt trade any of them though.  we have 2 girls and 1 boy. oh actualy 4 one male minpin who is human really

  3. I own 1 male and 2 females....if I was you with having 2 males already I would fix them if you are going to be bringing in a female cause they are going to fight over her. That is why I have 2 females...I had to get rid of my other male cause they started to really fight and I couldn't afford to get them all fixed at the same time.

  4. We had 2 dogs, a Pit/Border collie female and a male Boston Terrier.

We decided to get a puppy recently, she's a 3 month old Pit Bull.  It's certainly become a LOT of work.  We thought "what's one more"?  But now there is one more dog on walks, about 20 pee breaks in a day.

She's turning into a great dog though, so I know the work will pay off.

One thing you might want to consider is your chihuahua.  Our Pit Bull puppy plays very rough, she's gentle,  but she's getting big.  It's fine with the Pit Bull/Border collie, she can handle it, but our Boston (26 pounds) finds it too much most of the time and won't play with her.  So I guess consider if the Pit puppy will be too much for the little one.

Also, it's good thing the puppy is female, it will help lessen any tension UNLESS your males are intact.  If you bring a puppy who is unspayed into the mix with 2 intact males, you might end up with some aggression between the 2 males.

    Good luck!
